This past year, Calvary Chapel Vista partnered with Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa's ministry, Armor of Light. AOL is a ministry to our military who serve our country, and CCV was able to 'adopt' a battalion at our local base. We serve the 5/11, an artillery unit made up of young men who fire giant rockets off the back of giant vehicles-a high risk job. Most of these young men are in their early twenties, not married and far from home.
In December, CCV's Armor of Light ministry partnered with Saddleback Church in Orange County to put on a Christmas dinner for the entire battalion of the 5/11 that is currently stateside. Our part-feed 600 Marines and their families a turkey dinner with all the fixin's, cooking on modified grills outside on a chilly winter day. The CCVMF leadership guys, along with some amazing servants of all ages put their hand to this task and put on a meal the 5/11 won't soon forget. Others from CCV, unable to put in the enormous amount of time and work this took, provided donations of funds that completely covered the cost of the entire meal, supplies and rental ovens.
Please join us in prayer for the 5/11 and all our military. One unit of the 5/11 deployed this week for Afghanistan, where it looks to get worse before it gets better. We were able to minister to them by sending them off with a hot breakfast, resources and prayer.
So get the popcorn-Frank took the pictures, Oscar did the video and God did a great work through the servants of CCV to our young Marines.
