Hey riders, it’s NOT Guido, it’s MaryAnne with the ride recap!
A group of seven bikes and ten riders pulled out under sunny skies and mild temperatures bright and early this past Saturday. We made our way in light traffic out through Valley Center to Lake Henshaw. We took a quick break and some of us put on a layer of clothes since the temps had dropped a bit and the wind picked up. Heading out the S2 and the Banner grade made for a beautiful scenic ride, but you can sure see the effects of our current drought in the back country.
Once we hit Julian we were blessed to find parking together because, after all, it is apple season! We decided on the Julian Café for lunch, and they were gracious to accommodate our group during such a busy weekend. Of course, the food was great! Ed and Dave L. had a fried chicken dinners that would have fed the whole table, Traci’s onion rings were the size of saucers and the fish and chips got a hearty thumbs up from Hugh. I don’t know what anyone else ate because of the turkey croissant coma I was in. There was no room for pie after such a huge lunch, so we made our way slooowly back to the bikes.
It was a day of more bikes than cars in town and on the road, it seems everyone thought it was a perfect day for a ride and they were right! We headed out Wynola Road back to the 78 and by the time we got to Santa Isabel we were all ready for pie. We had a brief moment of silence for Dave “I love pie” Sandstoe who couldn’t make the ride, then we chowed down. Hitting the road once more we took the beautiful Mesa Grande loop down to the 76 and home from there.
We sure missed some guys that couldn’t make the ride-Guido had family visiting, Pete’s out of town and Frank is having some back issues, please keep him in prayer. The only down side of our day was when we came upon a bad accident scene heading up to Palomar. A bike had gone down and hit a car, leaving twisted and burned wreckage. We have no idea how that occurred but it’s a reminder to us all to own our own safety and to ride safe and sane.
That’s it for now, we’ll be sending out information on our October rides pretty soon and also a fun ministry opportunity. Keep the shiny side up, the rubber side down and your eyes on Jesus!
