Saturday, January 24, 2015 - Ride to Shields Date Farm
This Month, we will be heading to Shields Date Farm in Palm Desert. This trip is a long day of riding and covers a round trip distance of approximately 250 miles. This ride will take us through mountain areas, then drop us down to the desert floor, as we travel through the Anza Borrego Desert. From there, we will be riding down to Highway 86, which runs parallel to the Salton Sea. Fuel and rest stops are planned along the intended route. Once we arrive at Shields Date Farm, there is an onsite restaurant with great food. After lunch, there will be some time for some shopping in the Shields Date Farm store, which houses all kinds of tasty treats of various kinds.
On our way home, we will travel from the desert floor of Palm Desert and head back up into the mountains. Once we arrive in Anza, we will make our return trip fuel/rest stop at the Chevron station in Anza, which happens to be located right next to a Dairy Queen!!!!!!!!!
Temperatures will vary throughout the ride, so be prepared for warm and cold weather. Layering is recommended.
On ride day, please meet at our Vale Terrace staging location, located at 956 Vale Terrace, in Vista. We will meet at 8:00 am, have a pre-ride briefing at 8:15 am and be on the road PROMPTLY by 8:30 am. Come gassed up and be ready to ride. Please note that per our riding and safety policies, if you have "bald" tires and are not properly dressed for the ride
i.e. (no shorts, tennis shoes, DOT approved helmet), then you will not be allowed to participate. Due to liability concerns, these rules are NON-NEGOTIABLE and will be strictly enforced by our road guards.
Should our ride have to be cancelled due to weather, we will be meeting at the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant, located off the Old 395 in Rainbow at 9:00 am for breakfast and fellowship. All are welcome to join us! See you on ride day!
