Hey riders! It's Guido. Today's message asks the question, are you reformed or transformed? Before we can really discuss this topic, we should probably find out what is the difference between these two words. For that, I will have to consult "Guido's Dictionary For Dumb Biker Dudes". Hmmmm.......let me see......ok, here it is........
To "reform" oneself, we're talking about a change of "behavior". when one is "transformed", we're talking about a change of "heart". In the first case, changing our behavior means we are trying to accomplish something in "our own power". In modern parlance, this is often referred to as "re-inventing yourself".And while we all have good intentions, I can tell you from personal experience that this way, while initially appearing to be successful, usually does not work in the long term. why? Because we can change our personality, appearance and behavior temporarily, but without a "change of heart", the change cannot last and will only lead to a "relapse" of previous habits and behaviors. Take for example, the New Years resolution. I've made plenty of these during my entire life and while my intentions were good, I was not able to keep one resolution. Such is the consequence of subscribing to the "me, myself and I" club.
In the second case, when we talk about being "transformed", we are talking about a change of "heart". This is something only Jesus can do for you. When one accepts Jesus as his/her LORD and Savior, an amazing thing takes place. One is slowly "transformed" into a "new creation". This means that with the help of the Holy Spirit, we are brought into "relationship" and "fellowship" with God and because of the "transformation", the changes we seek to make in our lives can be become permanent; not in our own power, but in the power of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.
In Romans 12: 2 Paul the Apostle writes: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will".
Because Jesus died on the cross and paid the price for our sins once and for all, we can now enjoy the justification that comes through grace, by faith in Jesus Christ.
Tired of being "reformed" but not "transformed"? Would you like the temporary changes you have tried to make in your life permanent? All you have to do is reach for Jesus. He can transform you through his love, the strength of the Holy Spirit and the power of his word. God bless you all!
