Hey Riders!
We have some new information on our upcoming Williams/Flagstaff ride coming up in May! We now have lodging information, and have included a link for the ride map. This will be a four day event, beginning on Thursday, May 17th and ending on Sunday, May 20th.
When do we leave?
We are leaving from Starbucks at 1385 E. Vista Way at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012. We will be returning on Sunday, May 20th, 2012. Our first day of the trip will be riding to our hotel in Northern Arizona. We will be on the road for approximately 12 hours and travel a distance of 478 miles. As always, please come gassed up and ready to ride.
Where are we staying and what will it cost?
We are staying at the “BEST WESTERN Pony Soldier Inn & Suites” in Flagstaff, Arizona. We were able to secure a room rate of $70.00 per night plus applicable sales tax. This rate also includes a continental breakfast from 6:30am to 9:30am featuring Biscuits & Sausage Gravy, Fresh Waffles, Fresh Fruit, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, cold cereals, Danishes, breads, coffee, tea, & juice. They have an enclosed pool and hot tub, free wireless Internet throughout the hotel, and two guest computers in the lobby. You can find additional information, photos, and virtual tours of our hotel at www.bestwesternponysoldier.com Each rider will be responsible for booking their own lodging-for room reservations, contact the Best Western at 1-928-526-2388 and tell them that you are with Calvary Chapel Vista. Please note: Make your room reservations as soon as possible.
What are we doing when we get there?
This will be a great time of fellowship and motorcycle riding. On Friday, May 18th, we’re thinking of the Grand Canyon. Then on Saturday maybe Sedona and Prescott. We are still working on all the details and will keep you informed as we finalize our ride plan. We will be planning something special each day for the group along with some free time.
IMPORTANT TRAVEL AND SAFETY INFORMATION -
This is a long distance motorcycle trip. As such, we realize that there may be several of you who have not experienced this kind of long distance riding. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy your ride and add to your safety and comfort.
Between now and our departure date, riding your motorcycle frequently and increasing the distance traveled will increase your endurance. (Oh bummer, you mean I have to ride my motorcycle more?) There will be fuel and rest stops along the way, but be prepared for long distance riding between stops.
Between now and the ride, check your bikes tires, fluids, and lights. A four day ride in the desert is not a good time to have avoidable bike problems. Know your fuel capacity; we will only make scheduled fueling stops on the trip.
While Arizona is a no helmet required state, CCV Motorcycle Fellowship DOES require a DOT helmet to be worn on all our group rides, regardless of local laws.
Packing for a long distance motorcycle trip can be tricky, especially for you ladies, (no offense intended). This time of the year, the weather can range from hot to cold and everything in-between. Layering is recommended. I usually pack a couple of pairs of jeans and some tee-shirts, short and long sleeve. Don’t forget those leathers and proper gloves to include various temperature ranges. Make sure you bring sunscreen and any required medications and insurance information with you. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
We realize that packing space is limited by the type of bike you ride, so consider backpacks as on option to maximize what you can carry on your bike. Remember, this is only a 4 day ride, so leave your tux and ball gown at home! If you have had little or no experience in long distance riding and packing, please contact Pastor Dave and he can put you in touch with a member of our experienced leadership staff and we would be more than willing to assist you in anyway possible.
IMPORTANT! If after praying about it and considering the updated details of the ride, you believe this is a ride for you, please respond by email to me as soon as you can. Our desire is to make this ride as safe, fun and affordable for as many riders as possible. We are very excited about this ride and hope you can join us! If you have any other questions or concerns, please call me.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Dave Hommel
